What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is an easy way for charities to increase the value of gifts of money from UK taxpayers by claiming back the basic rate tax paid by the donor.
How does Gift Aid work?
Gift Aid is one of the easiest ways to make your donation tax effective. The charity you are supporting reclaims the basic rate tax from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). For instance, basic rate tax is 20 per cent, so this means that if you give £10 using Gift Aid, it’s worth £12.50 to the charity. There is no extra cost to you and the process is simple - all you have to do is make a Gift Aid declaration.
What is a Gift Aid declaration?
It is simply a statement by an individual taxpayer that they want a charity to get back from HMRC the tax paid on their donation.
Am I eligible to sign up for Gift Aid?
If you are a UK tax payer, yes. Even if you are not employed, you are still eligible if you are paying tax on any of the following:
-Personal or occupational pension
-Stocks and shares
-Bank and building society savings accounts
-Overseas and UK investment dividends.
I am a pensioner. Can I still sign the gift aid declaration form?
If you pay tax on a pension plan or savings account or pay capital gains tax if you sell property or shares, you are still eligible for Gift Aid.
Does the donation amount matter?
No. There is no upper or lower limit to Gift Aid. We can reclaim the tax on any amount you donate.
I've completed a declaration for another charity. Do I need to complete another one for UK Islamic Mission?
Yes. You have to complete a separate form for each charity you want to benefit from Gift Aid.
Will I have to complete more forms?
No. Once you have completed the Gift Aid declaration there are no more forms for HMRC to complete.
Does it commit me to giving money?
Absolutely not, it just means that if you do give to UKIM again, we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give.
What if I am a lower rate taxpayer?
If you pay a lower rate (10 per cent or 20 per cent), UKIM can still claim back 25p for each £1 you donate, provided you pay enough tax to cover the claim in the tax year you make the gift(s).
