salaam, I currently work as a traffic warden and intend to go cabbing(taxi) in augast inshAllah. i will therefor be self employed my question is that alot of muslim brothers are taxying declaring less income to avoid to pay tax and claim tax credits at the same time. if i do the same will my earnings be haram as i will be cheating the goverment. what i intend to do is not claim any tax credits but also not pay tax on my earning so i wont be taking or giving anything from the british goverment as i beleive that i shouldnt be paying tax as that money is used in wars against our muslim nations. now if i dont pay tax at the same time claim benefits thats wrong. but i intend not to claim anything and not give anything as well (tax). plz guide me are my intensions right. JazakAllah |

Wa alaykum Assalaam
Paying tax imposed by the government, whether Islamic or non-Islamic is obligatory even if they are at war with Muslims elsewhere. One can try to avoid or minimise it through legal means. It must, however include deception and lying, which is clearly haraam to delve in to with Muslims and non-Muslims alike. When we choose to live in a non-Muslim country, we are in contract with the government to abide by the rules and regulations. Breach of this contract is a major sin.
